Dog Daze

Four Bedroom Soundside House, Located in Corolla

Wouldn't dream of going on vacation and leaving your four legged friend at home? We know just how you feel. Your pooch is welcome here and so are you.

This 4 bedroom retreat is located within The Hammocks community in The Currituck Club...a vacation destination on the northern Outer Banks. We offer a private pool, hot tub, Internet access, HBO and more. Sit a spell on the screened in porch or take a turn on the porch swing.

Relax because all the bed linens and towels are here and the beds are made too! The Currituck Club offers many amenities including community pools, tennis, and trolley service to the beach during the summer.

Did I say "decks?". Upstairs front and back, with seating. Downstairs front and back, with seating as well, and a patio with chaises for sunning. TV's in each bedroom, along with cozy chairs in the two master bedrooms and the tower room make them an oasis when you need privacy. There is a reading library, and Nintendo Game Cube, as well as some board games. Dog dishes are in the kitchen, so don't forget to leave plenty of drinking water inside and out for your dog. And, please don't lock your dog in the garage when you are away. What seems cool after coming in out of the sun will heat up quickly in the beach heat. Bring your own laptop to take advantage of the wireless internet to stay in touch.

If you haven't been to the Outer Banks, you're in for a treat. Once you make that left onto Route 12 after you cross the bridge, a new experience awaits. Route 12 will meander through Southern Shores, Duck and into Corolla. As you drive through, take note of some of the restaurants and shops. For upscale dining, don't miss the Blue Point or Red Sky in Duck. While upscale, they are still family friendly. Shopping is wonderful as well. There is the Duck General Store right next to the Blue Point, Scarborough Fair - and don't miss the Mystic Jewel in both Duck and Corolla.

As you get closer to The Currituck Club, you will pass through protected beach and sound areas, with great views. As you enter TCC, you will make a right turn to go up the hill. At the top of the hill, you will have a magnificent view of the sound and the Ocean.

The Hammock's is reminiscent of victorian seaside villages. Each house has that something special that makes them a unique part of the Outer Banks. My favorite part of the day is to be in my kitchen and be able to see the sound out the back deck doors, and the ocean through the front windows. Having the little "park" area behind the homes provides a serene buffer. We have been down in August, and the Persid Meteor Shower is amazing! And, dolphins! We were out at the 4 wheel drive beach and an entire pod swam up and around my kids - no kidding - it was like being in the Sea World show. Clicking, leaping and squealing as if they were having the time of their lives, and only about 10 feet away.

Our two Cairn terriers, Harry Potter (the dog who lived) and Emily love to come down on vacation. They are terrible car travellers, but as soon as they see the suitcases loaded in the car, and get their seatbelt harnesses fastened and hear the magic word, vacation, they settle right down, and enjoy the trip. They love their long walks around the Hammock's and the Currituck Club. There are paved paths for dogs, people, bikes and strollers. You see people up early and walking down to the Maui Wowie coffee store to start their day.

When we first visited OBX in 1982, there was no paved road to Corolla. These homes weren't even a dream at that time. But while the rest of the Outer Banks has highway bypasses and strip malls galore, Corolla maintains a certain charm that is lost in other beach areas. And, don't forget to go to Smokey's for NC barbeque and the best Fried Chicken - ever!
